This dataset summary is available as machine-readable JSON — including provenance, columns, key figures and a sample of rows — for use by researchers, journalists and AI assistants.
Methodology
Figures are taken verbatim from DVSA table dvsa-mot-01 (MOT test results by class of vehicle). The national summary uses the latest COMPLETE, reliable financial year (2023 to 2024); the provisional 2024/25 total in the published CSV is anomalous (it reports only ~41k tests versus ~32.7M for a full year) and was deliberately not used. The first-time pass rate is 100 minus the initial fail rate; the after-rectification rate reflects vehicles fixed at the test station. DVSA does not publish MOT results by vehicle make or age in these tables, so no such breakdown is included. No figure is estimated.
