How to Book a Ride on GeraRide in Under 60 Seconds — A Step-by-Step Guide

First time using GeraRide? This guide walks through installation, verification, booking, payment, and safety features in the order you will actually use them.

Quick answer. Install the GeraRide app, sign up with phone and email, add a payment method (card, GeraCash, or cash where supported), enter destination, confirm fare, and request. Most first-time passengers complete a booking in under 60 seconds.

Step 1: Install the App

GeraRide is available on iOS and Android. Download from the Apple App Store or Google Play. The app is free. If your phone is in a country where GeraRide is not yet live, the app will let you pre-register so you are notified when rides become available.

Step 2: Create Your Account

Sign up with your phone number — you will receive an SMS code to confirm it — and your email. Add your first name and preferred language. The account is created instantly. A phone number is required because dispatch and driver communication both depend on it.

Step 3: Add a Payment Method

GeraRide supports:

  • Visa, Mastercard, and local debit cards.
  • GeraCash wallet balance.
  • Cash in cities where cash is locally permitted.
  • Idram (Armenia), M-Pesa (Kenya), and other regional rails where integrated.

You can have multiple payment methods on file and pick one per ride.

Step 4: Enable Location

Grant the app location permission. This is what lets dispatch match you to a nearby driver. You can revoke location at any time from your phone's settings.

Step 5: Book the Ride

  1. Open the app. Your current location is the default pickup.
  2. Tap "Where to?" and type the destination. Saved addresses (home, work) make this faster once set up.
  3. Choose a ride category — standard, larger-vehicle, or economy.
  4. The fare is displayed before you confirm. That fare is the fare you pay, barring extreme traffic delay beyond the driver's control.
  5. Tap "Request". A nearby driver accepts; you see the driver's name, vehicle, number plate, and live ETA on the map.

Step 6: The Ride Itself

Confirm the driver's identity by asking them to confirm your name (not by you naming yourself first — a safety pattern recommended by ride-safety guidelines). Check the number plate matches what the app shows. Get in. The route is tracked on the map; you can share a live link with a family contact directly from the ride screen.

Step 7: Payment and Rating

For card or wallet payments, the fare is charged automatically when the ride ends. For cash payments, you pay the driver the exact amount displayed in the app. Rate the driver — this rating feeds into their driver quality profile and affects which rides they receive.

Safety Features You Should Know

  • Share trip. Send a live trip link to a family contact from the ride screen.
  • In-app SOS. Long-press the SOS button to contact local emergency services with your current location attached.
  • Report issue. After any ride, the "Report" option goes straight to the safety team, not a generic support inbox.
  • Women-only driver preference. Where supply allows, female passengers can opt in to female-only drivers.

Next Step

Download the app and take a ride within the next week. The first ride is the hardest. After that, the app gets out of your way.
