GeraRide in Nigeria 2026 — Ride-hailing in Lagos, Abuja and PH — FRSC, LASDRI and how to compete with Bolt
Published 21 April 2026 · 9 min read
Quick answer: GeraRide is ride-hailing built for Nigerian drivers and riders. Drivers keep more of the fare — commission lower than Uber/Bolt in most cities. We follow the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rules and, in Lagos, the Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) training requirement for commercial drivers. Pricing in naira, payments via Paystack, Flutterwave, Opay, Palmpay, card, bank transfer and cash.
The Nigerian ride-hailing landscape
Uber, Bolt, InDrive and LagosRide are the incumbents. Driver-side grievances about commission, fuel costs and rider payment disputes are the loudest story of the last three years — multiple strikes in Lagos and Abuja. That is the opening: a platform that pays drivers faster, takes less, and is transparent on pricing.
Regulation
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) regulates driver licensing nationally. In Lagos, the Lagos State Road Traffic Law and LASDRI (Lagos State Drivers' Institute) training apply to commercial drivers. The Lagos State Ride-Hailing Operation Regulation sets operator licensing, vehicle standards and driver-permit rules. In Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) handles similar duties. Vehicle inspection (VIO) certificates are mandatory.
Pricing in naira
Prices via useCountry(). Base fare ₦400–₦600, per-km ₦200–₦300, per-minute ₦30–₦50. Surge capped at 1.8× (Uber/Bolt cap at 2×+). Rider fee on each trip ₦50 (covers insurance and support).
Payments
Rider: Paystack, Flutterwave, Opay, Palmpay, Visa/Mastercard/Verve, transfer, cash. Driver: daily payout to any Nigerian bank via NIBSS. We do not hold driver earnings longer than 24 hours.
Cities covered
Lagos (Ikeja, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, Surulere, Yaba, Ikorodu), Abuja (Wuse, Maitama, Garki, Gwarinpa), Port Harcourt (GRA, Trans-Amadi). Ibadan, Kano, Benin City in the rollout pipeline.
Driver commission
We take 15% commission on trips, compared to Uber/Bolt's 20–25%. Drivers see their share instantly in-app. Fuel subsidy removal (2023) changed driver economics — we adjusted base fare to compensate, and have been clear about it.
Safety
Every driver completes an FRSC licence check, VIO certificate upload and, in Lagos, LASDRI training verification. SOS button in-app with Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) hotlines. Trip-share to a contact. Ride recording on premium trips.
