Quick answer
GeraRide offers DVLA-compliant ride-hailing across Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, and Cape Coast. Fares priced in ₵ up-front, paid by MTN Mobile Money, Vodafone Cash, AirtelTigo Money, cash, or Visa/Mastercard. All drivers carry commercial insurance; vehicles pass DVLA roadworthy inspection; every trip has a share-trip safety link.
Regulation: DVLA, NRSA, NCA, DPC
Ride-hailing in Ghana operates under the Road Traffic Act and related Legislative Instruments, with driver and vehicle compliance overseen by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA). Telecom-enabled digital dispatch falls under the National Communications Authority (NCA). Passenger and driver data is handled under the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) supervised by the Data Protection Commission (DPC). Every GeraRide driver must present a valid commercial (Class D) licence and a current roadworthy certificate.

MTN MoMo is the default
Cash still accounts for a meaningful share of Ghana ride-hailing, but MTN Mobile Money is rapidly taking over for younger commuters. GeraRide defaults to MoMo at checkout; tap confirm and approve the STK on your handset. Drivers receive fare payout the next day via GhIPSS direct to their Ghanaian bank or as MoMo to their registered number, after our 15% platform fee (Bolt and Uber typically take 20–25%).
Safety features
- Share-trip link — send ETA and GPS to a family member via WhatsApp.
- In-app SOS connects to the NRSA emergency line and Police 191.
- Two-way driver/rider ratings with auto-review triggers.
- All vehicles tracked in real time; trip history downloadable as PDF for expense claims.
- Female-rider preference toggle where a female-driver pool is available.
How GeraRide compares in Ghana
Bolt has the largest driver base in Accra and Kumasi; Uber holds meaningful share in Accra; Yango has grown quickly on aggressive driver promotions. GeraRide's differentiators: lower 15% driver fee, MoMo-first checkout, DVLA driver verification at onboarding, and SSO with the wider Gera ecosystem — a GeraMarket seller or GeraEats buyer uses the same identity and GeraCoins balance to ride.
